Clinical Associate Professor, Field Education and Assistant Director, Field Education
TORY COX, LCSW/PPS, joined the USC School of Social Work field faculty in 2010, where he teaches integrative seminar courses for foundation year students and collaborates on the development of non-traditional social work internships. Prior to his USC appointment, he taught community organizing and social work administration for master’s students at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and chaired the university’s committee on community collaboration.
Cox currently serves on the boards of the California Association of School Social Workers and End Abuse, Long Beach, a child abuse and domestic violence prevention council. As the lead school social worker for Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) from 1998-2010, he successfully wrote grants to increase the number of social workers, helped develop the MSW internship program and presented nationally on subjects such as crisis intervention and social work advocacy. In addition, Cox served as a team leader at the 2009 and 2010 National Association of Social Workers-California (NASW-CA) Legislative Lobby Days and as CSULB faculty liaison for the Lobby Days’ student organizing committees.
In 2010, he received the “Social Worker of the Year” award from NASW-CA Region I, Long Beach Unit and the Most Inspirational Professor Award from the CSULB senior class of 2010.
