Come hear the results of the first ever Futurethon which aims to solve problems around the drought. Guests include the Futurethon Winners, Mayor’s Office, LADWP, and others.
The Futurethon is an annual civic engagement program that combines a hackathon with a fellowship to solve city challenges. For this year’s challenge over 60 students and creative professionals brainstormed solutions to the drought over the course of a weekend at LADWP Headquarters. Challenges focused on turf removal, water awareness, and water conversation. The winning student team created Terracotta.la, a website that lets people visually experiment with different turf options for their property and then directly connect with a local garden shop or contractor. The winning professional team developed a humorous marketing campaign based on crowdfunding mechanics and celebrities. The Futurethon is a collaboration between Deutsch LA, Global Shapers, and the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab. More came be found at Futurethon.org and Facebook.com/Futurethon.
